Hey, Dad, How's It Going?

We got home and I went straight to my room.

I was going to decorate it, make it scream "Percy's Room!", and by that, I mean covering it with blue and ocean-themed stuff.

First, I changed the sheets on my bed to the soft aqua ones, placing Mr. Beluga and Ms. Panda on top of the pillow. Yes, I named my stuffed animal beluga whale, Mr. Beluga. And, yes, I got a panda pillow to replace the one Octavian so rudely disemboweled.

I soon smelled a warm sea breeze behind me, and turned around, smiling.

"Hey, Dad."

He smiled back at me, his kind weathered face brightening, "Hello, Percy. I've come to help with your room, that is, if you would like me to," He quickly rushed on, "no powers of course."

For the next 15 minutes, we had some father-son time. We put up the decals on my walls, placed the horse figurines on the desk, and mounted the photo case to the wall. Inside, we put the pictures I had of CHB and Camp Jupiter, of my friends, of me with my mom, with Paul.

I couldn't stop the flow of tears as I thought about them all, all of them died because of me.

"Perseus," My father called, "it is not your fault that this happened."

"I know," I whispered, not believing it at all.

Soon a cry came from the room over and Dad looked up, startled, as I came back into the room with Estelle.

"She has your mother's eyes," he spoke, smiling at her tenderly.

"Do you want to hold her," I offered.

"What?"

He looked genuinely surprised I would even let her near him, but I could tell he would be as careful as he could with her.

"I... yes, I would quite like that." He replied, eyes softening.

He held her as gently as he could, like she was made of the most delicate sea glass, and stood there rocking her back and forth.

After a while, I put Estelle back in her room for a nap.

"Do you want to help me paint my wall and my door?"

I was secretly hoping he would accept my offer.

"Of course," I could see in his eyes he was happy, I knew he wanted to spend time with me too.

Starting with the door, we painted a wave, keeping the paint off of the hall's floors. If one of the boys came across us, they would have some questions, but mist manipulation could fix that.

After the door, we painted an underwater seascape on the blank white wall. The wall I would wake up seeing every day, the wall that I would always remember having painted with him, the wall that shouted "Percy's Room".

He was a good painter, for a god of the ocean, and the corners of his eyes crinkled in delight, complimenting me on the use of Apollo's gift. We continued this way until we were finished.

The water swirled into different hues of blue, corals beautifully nestled in the seaweed, fish looked like they were ready to pop off of the wall, and the turtle appeared like it would come to life at any moment.

We stood there, for a minute, relishing in our hard work. We looked up at each other and held in our laughs until we couldn't any longer. We were both covered in paint from head to toe, we even had some of it in our hair.

After we quieted our laughter, I braced myself, "Father?"

He raised his eyebrow in response, amused, "Yes, my son?"

"I was wondering..."

"Yes?" He pushed.

I took a deep breath, speaking as quickly as possible, "I want to be a hero. I want to do it in my friends and family's names, for everyone I lost and for those who remain. I want to be one of the worlds protectors and protect those who cannot protect themselves."

I waited, terrified, thinking he would laugh at my request. That he would get angry. That he would tell me no. That he would resent my asking.

Instead, I received a good-natured chuckle, "I was waiting for you to ask. Hephaestus, Aphrodite, and I made a suit for you if you wish to use it."

He waved his hand and a suit appeared on the bed.

It was two-toned, made from cerulean blue and extra strong material. From the waist up, it was lighter with a darker bottom half and pockets on each leg. On the shoulder, for my dominant arm, was a guard made of dark leather and, with the same leather, a belt was attached.

Next to the suit were leather vambraces, dark blue boots with fins on the back, a ring of celestial bronze, and a cerulean domino mask. Additionally, there was a half-mask made of celestial bronze scales, each overlapping each other perfectly.

"If you desire to change some of the design, this is fine. We also left your symbol for you to choose, you can pick whatever you like for your mantle name as well. The vambraces can be an excuse to hide your powers, you can say they magically manipulate water."

He shifted his gaze back to my face, "The balaclava can also be used as an excuse for your breathing underwater, inside it there is also a voice change, allowing you to sound at least two years older. The ring will also magically put you into the suit, and out of it, in a moment when tapped."

I laughed giddily, he was actually giving me permission to do this.

I calmed myself, sucking in my breath, "What about me being a demigod? I want to tell the Wayne's and I don't know if I could keep that secret, along with being a super."

My father spoke, his voice a soft rumble, "You are allowed to drop hints if you wish, we gods don't want them to be unworthy so you must trust them wholeheartedly before doing so. Let them try to guess your powers and heritage, we do not want them to be told outright."

I paused, "Do I have to promise on the river to not tell them?"

"No, Zeus does not like it, but we trust you to do what is needed for you to do."

I stepped back, staring at the suit, "How about a trident, for my symbol? Until we find something more fitting?"

My father smiled and with another wave of his hand, my symbol was now on my suit, "And what about a name, Perseus?"

I thought back to my wise girl, her symbol was a bird, maybe mine could be too, "How about... Sea Hawk?"

My father smiled proudly at me, today was a good day. A day filled with smiles and laughter.
