Fire

"Hurry up!" Kat was trying to get the gang to hurry up.
They were all planning on going to the club, Bonnie wanted Kat to have dinner up there one night.
While she was working so Kat could Critique her on the job.
But Kat wasn't about to walk into a Kook paradise Alone-
"Pope- that has a stain on" Kat whines as she throws him a clean shirt.

They were all dressed up fancy.
Not too fancy but country club fancy.

Kats PoV

I was wearing a simple black dress.
We all get in the van squashing in as John b drives.
As we pull up, we all gasp our mouths hang open.
The club was all lit up and it looked good.

"So where's Jake?" Sarah whispers and I just shrug.
Jake was at home, he was mad at me for ditching him at midsummers so we aren't really talking.
Which is super awkward considering we Live in the same house at the moment.

We all walk in sitting at the table near the bar.
My mother was working the bar this evening.
As my friends sit down I go to the bar talking to my mother.
"Hey can I have a whiskey" I joke as my mum shakes her head at me.
"I'm working Kat" she smirks before filling up a lemonade.
"Now go sit down at the kids table" she passes me the lemonade.

I laugh nodding as I take the glass off her.
My mum and i joke like this all the time.
"Hey guys you looked at the menu's yet?"
They all nod as a waiter comes over.
"Hey Sam what's up". I hear a faint voice come from the bar.
I turn to see Rafe.
He was meeting Sam at the bar.

I turn around hoping he didn't see me and if he did I was hoping he pretended he didn't.
That's what he did.
Pretended he hadn't seen me at the table with the pouges instead he sat down at the bar talking to Sam.
That's when my mum came over "I thought you were behind the bar tonight?" I ask her as I look at my menu.

"They swapped my shift, I just came over to take your drink orders and to tell you that there is live music outside" she slightly giggled when she spoke.
She probably thought 'these darn kooks'
"We should move outside, it's summer!" Pope gestured to the outside area.

We all agree getting up finding a table outside.
25 minutes into the dinner:
"I'm going to the bathroom I'll be back" I pat down my skirt as I get up.
They all nod as I walk back inside.
I avoid eye contact with Rafe as I walk past.
I notice his eyes on me and I can't help but feel nervous.
I quickly come back , sitting down as everybody is still chatting.
About 30 minutes in and people start to run outside.
"Everybody get out! Fire!" We hear somebody shout as we watch people run from the back of the country club to the front.
Pope grabs me up from my chair, when I wouldn't move.
I was in shock, the flames absorbed the building so fast.
Too fast.

We all run round the side trying to get away from the angry flames that were submerging half the building.
We all run towards the van.
We watch as the fire spreads , the fire so close we could feel the heat.
People running, screaming and not everyone was even out yet.
"My mother?! Where's my mum!" I get out of Popes grip running back the way we came.
"Mum! Mum!" I scream as I see groups of people none of them being her.

That's when someone grabs me, turning me around to face them.
"Your mums fine she's with the staff out front and the fire trucks are on their way , you ok?!" He was holding my face and I was too shocked to even realise it was Rafe.

"Hey it's ok-" he soothes me trying to get me to snap back into reality.
His thumb softly caresses my cheek as we meet each other's eyes.
It sounds stupid but when I was looking at his blue eyes it felt like everything just stopped.
No screams, no sirens, no talking ,nothing.

"Kat!" I hear my name, Rafe taking his hands off me instantly, he coughs to cover what just happened.
Oh.
Of course, why did I think anything would change? Then again I did tell him to stay away from me.
It was the pouges.
"Rafe?" Sarah questions , Rafe couldn't answer before Pope was telling us that we had to get out of there.
