A silence falls. Then, Owen nods. "Of course. Bye, Scarlett." I give him a small smile as the rest stands up too.
"Bye," they mumble in unison and head for the door. I nod. I'm not ready to forgive them just yet. I'm not running back with open arms and a laugh, forgetting about everything.
Their shoulders are slumped when they leave, but that's honestly what they deserve. I've been like that for the past two years. And they may too, but it's their own fault.
The door closes and I hear the front door slam closed too, then a car engine starting. I take a deep breath.
