For my dad too. Thank you for telling me that you don't tolerate cowardice. I wouldn't be able to do half of the things I do without you cheering me on. 

And for my mom, who forced me to play with Barbies and listen to C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia instead of watching television when I was little. 

A U T H O R ' S   N O T E 

Originally, this started out as a 10-15 chapter study of Percy's character and a short indulgence for my undying love for Roman history. I had wanted to write something set in Rome for over two years, but it wasn't until I turned fourteen that I typed out of the first chapter. Now, it's been more than three years, over forty chapters, and I'm not even halfway finished with the monster AU my brain has spawned. 

I am absolutely, most definitely, stepping out of my comfort zone with this fic. At least, in some ways. In other ways, I'm not. I've never written a romance as the center focus before, and I've certainly never written a kiss scene beyond "And they kissed." (*laughs nervously while looking at the later chapters*) So! Feedback is welcome so long that it's not derogatory, especially if it's something that points out a recurring error in my writing. 

A fair warning: When I began writing this, I had just turned 14, I had no idea it would grow to become such a major part of my life, and my knowledge of Greco-Roman history/politics/literature was nowhere near as strong as it is now. So, take everything in this with a grain of salt unless I specifically say something in a footnote- this is meant to be read for pleasure, not as a textbook. 

I swear I will never, ever discontinue this fic even if I'm on my deathbed when I'm 100 or something. I've put in too much effort to quit on this now, and I don't believe in giving up. So, even if it takes me several months to update (has happened way too many times), I'll continue to work on it when I'm able. 

Finally, I hope you all enjoy reading this monster of mine. :)
